Gene Hackman dead? Article claims he’s “gone but still in charge” ?

Rumours are spreading that popular US actor Gene Hackman has died.

Rumours are spreading across social media that Gene Hackman has passed away at 84. However the rumours are utterly untrue and the Hollywood legend is alive and well.

It appears an article from website Grantland.com with the headline “The Greatest Living American Actor at 85: Gene Hackman Is Gone But Still in Charge,” sparked the rumour as many assumed the “gone” meant that the actor had passed away.

However in reality it meant that the actor rarely appears in movies anymore. Grantland.com quickly changed the title of the article after learning of the misunderstanding, using the word “Retired” in place of “gone.”

At the bottom of the article Grantland.com note –

Editor’s note: Because of an unintentional misunderstanding stemming from our original headline, “The Greatest Living American Actor at 85: Gene Hackman Is Gone But Still in Charge,” we’ve changed the title of this piece. Mr. Hackman is very much alive.

So no need to worry. Hackman is still alive.
