Is today the day Marty McFly went to the future?

Images that assert to show the dashboard of the famous DeLorean time machine depicting the future date are spreading across the Internet.

But is today really the day that Marty McFly went to the future in the hugely popular Back to the Future movie series? Well, that of course depends on what day you’re reading this, but the only day you can answer with YES! is October 21st 2015, because that is the day!

However, that simple fact hasn’t stopped a flurry of hoaxes claiming otherwise, with “photoshopped” images showing the DeLorean dashboard showing alternative future dates. We’ve actually reported on one such hoax before that claimed the future date was June 27th 2012.

As we near the actual future date (we’re writing this on June 10th 2015) these hoaxes haven’t slowed down. In fact many are spreading the latest fake image (below) that shows the date to be June 10th – these rumours actually pointed to a Tumblr website that has actually published a fake image for each day in June so far!

Just as with previous hoaxes of the same nature, this recent slur of fake images plaguing social media borrow a still from the first movie (below) that originally showed the future date of October 26th 1985, a part of the movie when Doc sends his pet dog Einstein into the future by a minute.

It was actually the second movie in which the pair travelled into the future to 2015.

Will hover boards be around in a few months’ time? Unlikely (despite other rumours), but we still have our fingers crossed.
