Comcast charging customers affected by Hurricane Irma $70? fact check

A social media post claims that Comcast are charging customers affected by Hurricane Irma $70 for a replacement cable box.

A Facebook post claims that the service provider will make customers pay the charge even if their existing boxes were underwater or damaged by Hurricane Irma. The post has seen many angry comment from outraged users.

But it isn’t true. Mindy Kramer, the Vice President of Public Relation for Comcast has stated that the social media rumour isn’t true.

We will replace impaired or lost XFINITY equipment resulting from Hurricane Irma at no additional charge to the customer. In addition, we will not charge for an in-home appointment with a technician during recovery efforts

As such, the rumour appears to be false.
