Does Halloween 2015 really fall on Friday the 13th? No.

A rumour is running riot on Facebook that claims Halloween is going to fall on a Friday 13th, and this is the first time this has happened in 666 years.

Sounds spooky right?

It certainly would, if it were true. Which it isn’t.

The same claim actually spread last year too, and that wasn’t true either, if not only for the simple fact that Halloween is always celebrated on the last day of October, rendering any chance of it falling on the 13th (regardless of the day) completely impossible.

If we fast forward 13 days from Halloween, you will reach Friday the 13th. November 13th does indeed fall on a Friday, but that day is not – nor ever has been – Halloween, nor All Hallows-Eve, nor any other holiday associated with the celebration of ghouls and goblins. As for the 666 reference – a clear nod to the “mark of the beast” in the Book of Revelations, the term Halloween – or the celebration itself – does not date back nearly that far.

As for October 13th, that falls on a Tuesday, not a Friday.

It is likely that the rumours began as a joke, tricking those gullible enough into thinking that a day that always falls on the 31st of the month could possibly fall on the 13th of the month.

Despite the apparent obviousness of the joke, it appears at least a few people who asked us didn’t quite get the joke. Perhaps next time, it would be prudent to check the calendar first.

Halloween has never been celebrated on the 13th of a month. It’s not true.
