Did Facebook lock you out of your account this weekend?

On Friday and Saturday, there were plenty of angry and perplexed Facebook users.

It seems that the social networking website was automatically logging users out and subsequently locking them out of their accounts.

Upon being logged out, users who tried to regain access were presented with a number of security messages, and would eventually run into vague error messages without being able to log back in.

Other users reported not being able to even get back to the login screen at all.

And it wasn’t an isolated incident. Thousands of users turned to alternative social media – namely Twitter – to report the problem. #FacebookDown once again turned to the trending topics section of rival Twitter.

According to Facebook, there was nothing to worry about. It was a temporary glitch, and no accounts were actually being compromised. A spokesperson told Mashable

Earlier today an error in one of our systems designed to help prevent suspicious account access sent a small set of people to our account recovery flow unnecessarily. We have fixed the issue and are in the process of clearing the affected accounts from this recovery flow. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Users have since been reporting that they have been able to log back into their accounts, so it looks like the worse of it may now be over.
