Did Floyd Mayweather Jr. donate £200 million to Houston? Fact check

Rumours claim that boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. donated a massive $200 million to Houston after the devastating Hurricane Harvey that hit Texas in August 2017.

The rumours appear to have started in an article posted by the website HoustonChronicle-tv.com, and has since passed to a number of aggregator websites. The article reads in part –

There is a well known saying that “To whom much is given, much is expected” and by all accounts, it appears Floyd Mayweather knows what he means on the world stage. He is living up to that expectation.
By way of financial support, the newly retired American boxer, Mayweather has offered an overwhelming sum of money to the Hurricane Harvey victims.
The World No. 1 undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather has donated 200 million dollars to help rebuild Houston, after the most populous city in the state of Texas and the fourth-most populous city in the United States was slammed by Hurricane Harvey on Sunday.

It’s fake news. Despite the web address of the website that originally published the story – HoustonChronicle-tv.com – this is not an article from the real Houston Chronicle (that is located at www.Chron.com)

This is a fake news article. HoustonChronical-TV.com is a known fake news site with a history of publishing nonsense articles, and as such it should not be trusted. There have been no reports that Mayweather has donated that much money to Houston.
