About
This site is dedicated to teaching people about hoaxes on the Internet. By hoaxes we generally mean methods of sending false information in order to waste the recipients time and/or bandwidth. We also delve into Internet and Email scams, which by definition, typically are more serious in the respect that they are usually after the recipients money or assets.
The scope of this site pertains to hoaxes and certain types of scams on the Internet, whether they are general cyberspace hoaxes or email hoaxes. Whilst we briefly touch on email malware, Trojan horses and viruses, this website isn’t dedicated to such areas. For extensive information on viruses and recent outbreaks, we recommend you visit the webpage of your antivirus software vendor. You can tell if we consider each breakdown to be either a hoax or scam by the titles header, which will contain either or both of the descriptions.
For each article we include if the specific hoax or scam is dangerous (by dangerous we mean is it a scam to hurt your computer or steal from you) it is, how convincing it is (on a scale 1.blatent lie 2. Not that convincing 3. Unsure 4. Believable 5. Very convincing) - and notes on what you should do if you come in contact with the hoax or scam.
We aim to write as accurately as possible according to the information we have. If you notice any inaccuracy on this site, please contact us through the contact section above, so we can investigate and rectify.
