Q What does this site cover?

A Anything that could be considered a hoax or a scam that has significantly involved the Internet. We tend not to delve too deeply into real viruses or malware threats. These are best dealt with by antivirus vendors. Anything that misleads people to a great extent or deceives people would be considered a scam to some extent. Any operation that effectively steals assets from people is also considered a scam.

Q Do you consider MLM (multi level marketing) a scam?

No. Many people do but we allow the fact that there are legitimate MLMs operating around the globe. We also, however, acknowledge the fact that there are many schemes that take advantage of the MLM structure, like Ponzi schemes. You will find plenty of Ponzi schemes on this site.

Q I don’t understand some of the terminology on this site, any help?

A We try to make this site simple enough for the average Internet user to understand. If there are any terms you do not understand, try our technical terms glossary. If that doesn’t help, you can always contact us.

Q Who adds articles to this site?

A We have a small team of people who dig out scams and add them for us.

Q Can I help?

A Yes! We have our own section so you can add hoaxes and scams you find straight into our database. Click here.

Q I'm not sure of the scam classifications?

A We try our best to fit each scam into its own category, such as Email Media Hoaxes or Fake Virus Hoaxes. There are many different types of scams out there, but we've tried to encompass all scams in several groups. For example lottery scams are usually a type of Advance Fee Fraud, so that is what they are classed as. Scams pretending to be from your bank are Phishing attacks. Because of the variety of scams out there, many can fall into more than one category. For example a lot of Phishing schemes are also Advanced Fee Fraud, and many Ponzi schemes are also Fake Products. We have done our best to classify each scam we archive into its most appropriate category. For information on the categories, click on the relevant icon on the homepage. If you think a scam we have archived is not in the correct classification, let us know, quoting the article ID.

Q May I reproduce articles I find on your site?

A Sorry, but the answer is no. Even if you give us credit, any articles that you copy onto your own site/blog/etc. constitutes copyright infringement. We are always updating our content to keep it as accurate as possible. When you copy it, we can’t do that, which can cause problems down the line. You can of course provide direct links to our pages.

Q How do I know the content on this site is accurate?

A You don’t. We don’t pretend to be the final say on scams. We are however, pretty experienced when it comes to Internet scams. We have years of knowledge in the area. Some of our articles are our educated opinions. If you disagree with an article, you are free to let us know.

Q Some of the Ads I see on your site are scams I think?

A The ads on the site derive from Google Adsense. We don’t have much control of what appears, as it is up to Google. We try and block certain sites we know to be dubious from appearing on this site, but due to the dynamic nature of Google Adsense, we cannot keep completely on top of this.

Q Are you affiliated with anybody?

A We are affiliated with various companies we know to be legitimate and useful.

Q When a scam or hoax is listed as dangerous, what does this mean?

A It means that it has the potential to cost you money or assets, or can be harmful to your computer.

Q Do you recommend any legitimate software that can protect my computer?

A Yes, here.

Q Is the site suitable for kids?

A In the most part, it is. However there are certain articles that deal with adult themes. We cannot be held responsible for children reading inappropriate articles on this site.
