Facebook Hit by Sudden Surge of Pedophillia Hoaxes02/07/10Popular social networking site Facebook is no stranger to hoaxes and scams, but the end of 2009 going into 2010 has seen a sudden increase of hoaxes, and it seems many are started by the same ring of hoaxers. From phantom viruses to imaginary pedophiles, false Facebook warnings have played a popular part of the sudden surge of time wasting Facebook hoaxes that have been plaguing the site of late. And unfortuantly, many of these hoaxes are taking a common theme - pedophillia. In an attempt to scare people into changing their updates and joining anti-pedophillia groups, sick hoaxers have been busy creating false Facebook accounts, creating fake groups and commenting on otherwise legitimate events and groups, in an attempt to create uproar on the social networking site. ThatsNonsense.com has looked into many of these groups and accounts and many Facebook accounts seem to be involved in spreading these hoaxes. Fake accounts include Nicky Pates, John Wayne Gacey, Billybobblehead, Ching Chong Dow Ning and Britney Spuurs, but there are literally hundreds of others, all within the same ring, that are clearly involved with starting and spreading these hoaxes. Judging by the open and confrontational methods these hoaxers employ, it is very unlikely that they are genuine pedophiles, but they do appear to be very sick hoaxers, playing on a very controversial and upsetting subject just for fun. It is unclear exactly how many actual people are behind the hoaxes and the numerous Facebook accounts, but we can only hope that Facebook gets a handle on the situation and blocks not only the accounts, but the people behind them as well, from using their social networking service. Easier said that done, however. You can see our latest list of Facebook hoaxes here. |
