Is Back to the Future Part 4 really scheduled for 2016?

Rumours that Back to the Future Part IV is set to be released in 2016 are spreading via social media, specifically Twitter.

The Back to the Future franchise is perhaps one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, and with millions of fans, it is no wonder that rumours of a possible fourth instalment would get tongues wagging.

However it all appears to be somewhat of a ruse, tracing back – from what we can tell – to an article on FlickChart.com that tells the story of how series co-creator Bob Gale has already written the screenplay that apparently focuses on Doc Browns sons Jules and Vern.

The article however has the publish date of April 1st, which no doubt should raise suspicions since this was the day to “trust nobody”, especially concerning share-baity news like the promise of a new Back to the Future movie.

And after checking with the relevant sources, including those involved with the original movies and the production companies – as well as numerous Movie blog websites that would usually pounce upon a story like this – there has been no word of such an announcement, meaning that the rumours are nothing but another online prank that seems to have grown in popularity during the week after April Fools.

Oh, and the author Charles Does since admitted in the comments that it is all just a joke. So there’s that, too.
