Rihanna & Drake “sex tape” links spread across Facebook

Links like the one below purporting to show a sex tape between singers Rihanna and Drake are spreading through Facebook.

Using trashy celebrity stories and the bait of sex tapes is a popular social engineering trick used to lure victims into a variety of scams, and it is no different in this case.

The link spreading across Facebook.

The link, along with the caption ”Drake leaked Rihanna sextape after brawl” is directing those who click the Facebook link to a website that tries to trick users into sharing the Facebook page onto their own timelines, thus spreading it to their own friends.

After sharing the link users are then instructed to complete spammy surveys that harvest a user’s personal information and targets them for unsolicited communication and spam. When people complete these surveys, the spammer who directed them to the survey gets paid. For more information on such survey scams click here.

Needless to say, after jumping through all these hoops, the user then realises that no such video exists. But by this time the damage is done and they have already parted with much of their personal information.

Sex tapes are common bait when it comes to tricking users into visiting spammy webpages and completely surveys like this and this isn’t the first time Rihanna has been used to lure visitors into clicking things they shouldn’t be.

Always be cautious when you see links on Facebook like this and never share webpages or complete surveys to proceed to “the next step”.
