Robber convicted after showing stolen cash on Facebook

A thug in Texas has been convicted shortly after posting a photo of himself on Facebook with a wad of cash he had just stolen in a brutal robbery.

Well, this is hardly the first time a criminal has found himself behind bars because of his Facebook activity, and yet we certainly don’t get tired of hearing such stories where thuggish criminals are taken down by the justice system helped largely by their own arrogance and foolishness.

Take DeAndre Bryant of Houston, who was convicted of aggravated assault this week after he and his friend Greg Young attacked a 70 year old man outside him home with a taser, dragged the man into his house and held him and his wife at gunpoint while stealing over $50,000 in valuables, including the elderly man’s truck.

However Bryant and Young would soon be caught. A witness saw the men dump a pair of latex gloves used in the robbery in a nearby parking lot, and upon thinking this was strange behaviour, took down the license place of the vehicle they were driving.

This led police to Bryant and upon looking at his Facebook account (practically standard procedure these days) police were probably happy to see photos of Bryant (below) arrogantly posing with a large wad of the money he had just stolen. Pretty concrete evidence and part of the reason Bryant has just started his 35 year sentence inside.

And the Facebook photos will likely return to court shortly to help put Bryant’s partner in crime, Greg Young, behind bars as well.

Another case on how social media has helped law enforcement catch criminals. Why criminals flaunt their crimes on social media is just bizarre, but as long as they do, they can expect to see the inside of a prison cell with only their own stupidity to thank.
