SCAM – “T’rrfying Girl woke up like this” Facebook video link

A link with the description “T’rrfying!!! This girl woke up like this and She didn’t know what to do so she ask his friends…” is spreading across Facebook.

(We also discuss this scam on our YouTube channel Sixty Second Scams which you can watch here.)

This is one of many links that relies on rogue, spammy Facebook apps to spread by luring Facebook users into installing a Facebook app and allowing it to post from their accounts. An example of the link spreading across Facebook can be seen below.

You can see the above link was posted by a Facebook app because of the title of the app at the top of the post, App fun Entertainment.

These videos – equipped with click-baity headlines – lure users into clicking them and installing a Facebook app. After installing the app the user is forwarded to an advert-laden webpage full of spammy third party ads that generate money for the scammer once they’re clicked. See an example of these types of pages below –

Not only that, but on the webpage there are also links to what is almost certainly malware disguised as video plugins.

And whilst you get forwarded to this spammy advert webpage, your Facebook account is most likely being hijacked by the rogue apap you installed and is posting the same link from your account to all of your friends!

Rogue Facebook apps are commonplace on Facebook and often lure victims with click-baity enticing headlines, only to forward you to spammy adverts. Remember to avoid clicking on such headlines and if you do, always uninstall the app (as well as removing any posts it made from your account) so stop it from spreading across Facebook.
