Stop using QuickTime for Windows. Now.

If you’re using Apple’s [used to be] popular media player QuickTime on a Windows based computer, it’s time to move on to greener pastures. Apple no longer supports it.

Not only that, but security vulnerabilities have already been discovered in the aged software, and because Apple no longer supports the media player (on Windows computers) those vulnerabilities will never be patched.

This means anyone using QuickTime will be vulnerable to cyber-attacks for as long as they continue to use the software.

Vulnerabilities on unsupported software are particularly dangerous because they don’t necessarily need the target to make a mistake when it comes to their online security. Merely using the software in the first place is enough. Basically, using out-dated and unsupported software is the mistake.

Those who continue to use QuickTime are exposing themselves to malware attacks as well as other types of cyber-crime. It is likely that those who distribute the particularly dangerous ransomware type of malware will be exploiting QuickTime for Windows in the near future.

If you’re using an Apple computer then there is no need to worry. QuickTime is still supported on Apple’s own operating systems. For the rest of us however, the only real option is to get rid of it, the quicker the better.
