Did Trump plagiarise inaugural speech from Avatar movie? FACT CHECK

More rumours are spreading online that claim Donald Trump plagiarised his inaugural speech from various movies, this one purporting parts of his speech came from the movie Avatar.

Previous rumours have falsely purported his speech (or at least segments of it) came from The Bee Movie.

An example of this rumour claiming his speech came from Avatar can been seen below –

And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams and they are infused with the breath of life by the same Almighty Creator
Donald J Trump, 20/01/17
And whether a human child is born in Earth of the space colonies or the windswept planet of Kabuska, they look up at the same stars, they fill their life with the same dreams and they are infused with the breath of conquest by the same Almighty Creator.
Colonel Miles Quaritch, Avatar, 2009

As with similar rumours, this is completely fake. While the example purporting to come from President Donald Trump’s inauguration speech is real, the excerpt purportedly from the Avatar appears to be fake.

We examined the full script of the movie at www.springfieldspringfield.co.uk and were unable to find the quote that was apparently the source of Donald Trump’s inaugural speech. There are no references to a “Planet Kabuska” in the Avatar movie, nor many of the words that apparently came from script, including “Almighty Creator” were actually uttered in the movie.

Again, like similar rumours, it appears that instead of Trump plagiarising Avatar , online hoaxers have merely take a part of his inauguration speech, changed a few words, and falsely credited to the Avatar movie.

This – however – hasn’t stopped this fake rumour (and many like it) from spreading virally on social media. Since it has been entirely made up, we do not recommend circulating this hoax.
