A message circulating the Internet asserts that a list of musical celebrities have refused to play concerts in Florida indefinitely or until the state abolishes its “stand your ground” law that has come into the media attention since the George Zimmerman verdict.

It is true that Stevie Wonder has publicly claimed that he will not perform in any state with a “stand your ground” law, however most celebrities named on the list, at the time this rumour began to circulate, have not stated that they will boycott Florida or cancel any tours within the state.

The rumour started after a story on the American Urban Radio Network by reporter April Ryan confirmed that "sources close to Stevie Wonder" confirmed the story to be true. However it would appear April Ryan`s sources may not have been as reliable as she had hoped and had to backtrack her article with the disclaimer -

I obtained from multiple sources early Monday a list of artists and entertainers who my sources told me had committed to a boycott of Florida following the George Zimmerman acquittal. Since publishing that list I have heard from several representatives of the artists named who say, on behalf of their clients, they are uncomfortable being identified on that list and are seeking additional information.

However her original article was picked up my mainstream media and circulated prolifically, despite for the most part being unconfirmed.

Currently at the time of writing the only celebrities to have confirmed a boycott of Florida include gospel duo Mary Mary as well as Eddie Levert - details in list below.

Of course this is regarding a current event and it is entirely possible that the facts will quickly change, so we have included a list below that shows the status of each celebrity listed in the original rumour and how they currently stand on the issue - each status is determined by checking for recent press releases and official social media releases as well as a variety of other reliable sources.

Also note that the assertion made within the rumour that singer Justin Timberlake was due to kick of his 2013 Summer tour in Miami but cancelled is false. His tour started in Canada, as expected, and will come to Florida on the 16th August, with no sign that it is to be cancelled. There is also no source that confirms that Timberlake made the quote in the message.
