FDA finds Coors Light has cocaine in it? - Internet/Facebook Rumour

11 Sep 2014 - Article No: 1879. Filed under: General | Internet/Facebook Rumour

Rumours are circulating that the FDA has found cocaine in a number of Coors Light beers, who have stopped production pending an investigation.

According to many articles circulating, an FDA spokesperson said

We cannot afford to have more people accidently drink cocaine from a brewery such as Coors Light, which has been a longtime favorite here in the U.S., this is unacceptable.

However the rumours are untrue and just yet another rumour started from “satirical” articles posted by serial nonsense-starters who publish fake news headlines under the guise of satire, despite the articles having no obvious satirical element in the way they are written and thus why they are so often mistaken as genuine news.

The original article seems to have originated from popular fake news website Huzlers which had been responsible for a string of nonsense articles that are prolifically circulated via social media sites like Facebook.

These sites exploit a business model that involves duping users into clicking headlines on social media websites and thus generating traffic to a website that makes money via its sponsored advertisements. We generally recommend avoiding these sites. For more information on how these hoaxes work, read our article here.
