Facebook is Shutting Down Groups! - Facebook Hoax

Filed under: Facebook Scams | Other

Getting as many people to join pointless time wasting Facebook Groups is a time worthy exercise for hoaxers, it would appear. Spurious groups have been appearing on Facebook since its conception enticing people to join for various reasons, but it is the groups claiming Facebook will shut down unless a certain amount of people join that really scores points in the deep realms of extreme unoriginality.

It seems to be merely a variant or mixture of various types of hoaxes plaguing social networking sites and free web based email sites for years, like the hoax claiming a certain "special" email has to be forwarded a certain amount of times or Hotmail will shut down!

Of course this hoax is no more real than any of the others, likely spawned by a bored individual with nothing else better to do. It doesn't really make sense on many levels and many of the group messages don't really offer much of an explanation, like the example below -

FACEBOOK WILL SHUT DOWN IN 7 DAYS IF 1,000,000 PEOPLE DONT JOIN THIS GROUP!
I JUST GOT THE NEWS FROM MARK ZUKERBURG THAT I HAVE TO MAKE A GROUP AND HAVE 1,000,000 PEOPLE JOIN IT IN 7 DAYS OR FACEBOOK WILL SHUTDOWN!

INVITE ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS!

HURRY WE ONLY HAVE 7 DAYS!

Also watch out for close variants that claim that it is your Facebook account, rather than Facebook themsleves, that will shut down if you don't join a certain Facebook group.
