Like all free to use Internet services, Facebook has inevitably fallen foul to the "overpopulated" variant of hoaxes which all claim that Facebook has become so overpopulated with idle accounts that they are requested their users forward a completely inane message in order to "save your account."

Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, Live Messenger and many, many other services have all seen their own variants of this persistant hoax and it never proves to be even remotely true.

Of course this hoax falls foul to one basic aspect of common sense - companies like Facebook have much more accurate and less intrusive methods of detecting which accounts are being used and which are not, so if they ever did want to remove idle accounts, a simple implementation of computer code will allow them to see that last time someone logged into their account. So sending out silly, time wasting messages and trying to get their users to forward it would be utterly pointless. Any rumour or message that circulates claiming you must forward it to save your account can be easily dismissed as a hoax.
