Shocking Video Paul Walker Facebook spam

Immoral scammers are exploiting the death of actor Paul Walker by flooding Facebook with spam links leading to a variety of scams.

We are seeing a rising number of scams that claim to show “shocking videos” of Paul Walker after his fatal crash in November 2013.

Spam links are circulating Facebook, exploiting well know spammy tactics that have been around for a number of years. After clicking the links, victims are potentially exposed to one of any number of well-known scams.

In the more popular instances, users who click the link, often titled “(Shocking Video) Paul Walker was still alive minutes after the crash.”, are exposed to a typical phishing scam, whereas they are presented with a spoof website that appears to be the Facebook login screen, that steals your login information when it is entered.

A typical link posted on Facebook.

After that users are then requested to download malware in the guise of a video player in order to continue.

In other instances, users are asked to complete useless surveys and questionnaires to continue.

As in all cases like this, do not rely on spammy links on Facebook for your news, instead refer to legitimate, reputable media outlets and avoid suspicious links on social media.

And as always, NEVER download untrusted software in order to watch videos.
