Facebook finally vows to stop Candy Crush Saga invites!

Could game invitations on Facebook be history? Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has hinted that those annoying game invitations may be easier than ever to block in a recent Q&A, meaning many Facebook users may have finally seen the last of apps like Candy Crush Saga.

We’ve all been there. We see a notification on Facebook when we log in, and instead of being notified about something potentially interesting like a comment, post or a photo tag, we see that we’ve been sent an invitation to play Diamond Digger Saga or some equally trivial sounding game.

Most people who don’t frequent Facebook games particularly often are already familiar with the process of blocking game requests, but for the Facebook desktop platform, you can only block requests from specific games, or block game requests from specific friends, meaning requests or invitations always slip through the cracks, especially from new games or from new Facebook friends.

At a Townhall Q&A session at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi recently, Zuckerberg stated that Facebook engineers were looking at a “solution” for the problem.

He said “This is where these Q&As are really useful because I actually saw this question because it was the top voted question on the thread,”

“So I sent a message to the person who runs the team in charge of our developer platform and I said by the time I do this Town Hall Q&A, I think it would be good if we had a solution to this problem.”

So does this mean that soon we will have a clear, direct way to opt out of all game invitations and requests? Does this finally mean that we’ll be done once and for all with requests to accept cows and goats, or join the underground mafia scene with our Facebook friends? We really hope so.

The news isn’t particularly good for Facebook game developers though, since luring new players with incentives send via Facebook notifications is something that many developers seem to put a lot of emphasis on.

There has been no word yet on how or when Facebook will be implemented a solution, but we really can’t wait!
