Did Trump plagiarise inaugural speech from Bee Movie? FACT CHECK

Rumours are spreading online that President Donald Trump plagiarised a part of the 2007 movie “Bee Movie” during his inaugural speech in 2017.

The rumour can be seen below –

Donald Trump Inaugural Address (2017)
We are one nation – and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home and one glorious destiny.
Barry B. Benson Bee Movie (2007)
We are one colony – and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one hive and one glorious destiny.

We took a look at the claims, and while the example on the left accredited to Donald Trump during his 2017 inaugural speech is genuine, the text on the right that has been accredited to The Bee Movie appears to be fake.

We examined the full scripts of the movie at both sites www.script-o-rama.com and www.springfieldspringfield.co.uk and were unable to find the quote that was apparently the source of Donald Trump’s inaugural speech. In fact, during the entire script, we were unable to find any reference to the word “colony” at all. Or “glorious”. Or “destiny”.

It appears that instead of Trump plagiarising The Bee Movie, online pranksters have simply take a part of his inauguration speech, changed a few words, and falsely credited to the 2007 animated movie.

However this hasn’t stopped this fake rumour from spreading virally on social media. Since it has been entirely made up, we do not recommend spreading this rumour.

Other similar rumours claim Trump plagiarised his speech on the Avatar movies, but these are hoaxes as well.
