2013 New Years Resolutions – some ideas

Struggling to think of some good New Year resolutions for 2013? We have a few possibilities…

In 2013…

1. I will not like or share a photo of a sick child because Facebook might donate money to help the child.

It doesn’t raise awareness. It doesn’t help the child. It doesn’t show you care. Don’t say “just in case”. These photos are stolen, used without permission to garner ‘Likes’ for Facebook pages and money for spammers, and causes distress for the families of the children in the photos.

2. I will believe, once and for all, that Facebook is not charging and is not going to shut down on the condition that I forward a message.

3. I will always set my Facebook privacy settings to “Friends Only”. I accept that not doing so and having my settings to “public” instead means that anyone can see my photos and status updates and such content will be broadcast to people I do not know when friends comment or like it.

4. I will only install Facebook applications from developers that I know and trust.

5. I will not give marketing companies all of my personal information by completing intrusive surveys, just to see some OMG-related photo concerning Justin Bieber.

Survey scams circulate the Internet every day, claiming in order to receive something you need to first complete a survey.

6. I will not tell my Facebook friends that a celebrity has died – (this includes writing RIP [celebrity] as my status) – without first verifying it with a credible news outlet.

BBC, CNN, MSNBC, Reuters, FOX, SKY. There’s plenty to choose from.

7. I will not take everything I hear on Facebook and Twitter at face value. I will accept that it is conceivable that people can post things on social networking sites that are not true, and just because something appears on the Internet, this fact alone is not a sufficient indication to its validity.
