Amazon and Argos rogue apps run wild
Rogue Facebook apps luring victims with the promise of free gift vouchers are managing to circulate virally on Facebook once again.
Rogue Facebook apps are always a constant menace on Facebook and yet again have managed to spread virally on the Facebook website, luring victim with fake gift vouchers from store like Argos and Amazon.
And what is different about these latest scams in comparison to earlier rogue app scams? Absolutely nothing.
In another infuriating step backwards, it would appear thousands upon thousands of trusting Facebook users were willing to install an untrusted Facebook app that posts spammy messages from their account, all for the slim possibility that it was the real deal.
As usual the scam starts as a link that appears to have been sent by a friend like the one below.

Once a victim clicks the link they are taken to an external website that asks you to “Unlock Your Voucher” which then directs a user to an application installation prompt like the one below. Clicking OK installs the app and lets it post the same message from your Facebook account.
And the end game is, as is common with these scams, survey/questionnaire scams aimed at obtaining as much personal information from you as possible. The scammers who set up this scam on Facebook get paid every time they dupe a user into filling out one of these surveys.
And of course, needless to say, there is no free gift voucher on offer.
Current versions circulating Facebook are targeting Argos and Amazon though we are soon to see different versions spread as well.
As usual, don’t fool for these scams. They are never real and installing these apps is only going to put you – and your friends – at risk.
