Did George Soros says he is funding black hate groups? Fact Check

A meme is recirculating that claims billionaire George Soros said in an interview that he would fund black hate groups to help him “bring down the United States”.

The meme and text is below.

I’m going to bring down the United States by funding Black Hate groups. We’ll put them into a mental trap and make them blame white people. The Black community is the easiest to manipulate.

This quote has been spreading online since 2016, with most iterations of it being attributed to George Soros. Any online search for the quote, however, reveals only baseless claims that Soros uttered the words during an interview with German newspaper Bild in 2014, without providing any evidence, sources or context.

No search reveals any audio recordings or written text of the alleged interview, or even any sources confirming that Soros was indeed interviewed by BILD in that month. No other part of the alleged interview exists, and there is no mention of it on the BILD website.

If Soros was interviewed by the German outlet at that time, both parties have been exceedingly impressive in their ability to keep it a complete secret. With the exception of the above mentioned quote, of course.

It is also worth noting that if Soros was planning on funding black hate groups to take down an entire country, it is perhaps quite unlikely he would announce his plans to a national media outlet.

The meme is clearly expressing a fake quote, and as such we rank it false.
