Did Nadine Dorries once tweet “food doesn’t grow on tree”? Fact Check

Claims that British MP Nadine Dorries once tweeted that “food doesn’t grow on trees” is spreading on social media.

FALSE

The claim is spreading in a screenshot of an apparent tweet made by Dorries that reads –

I am fed up of the loon left moaning about the rising demand for food banks.
Every family needs to live within their means.
Food doesn’t grow on trees!

The tweet is fake. There is no sign of the tweet on the timeline of Dorries, and none of the websites that track tweets made by high profile MPs (including since-deleted tweets) show this particular tweet ever being made.

Another sign that the tweet is fake is that it had had the data timestamp that accompanies every tweet scrubbed from it.

Fake tweets are often promoted by using “screenshots” of said tweets when in reality the tweets were actually made with one of many free-to-use fake tweet generators that can be found online.
