Did The Simpsons predict death of Queen Elizabeth II – Fact Check

Rumours spreading online claim long running US cartoon The Simpsons predicted the death of Queen Elizabeth II during an episode many years ago.

FALSE

This rumour claims that during an episode of the cartoon aired numerous years ago, there were two different scenes in which the cartoon appeared to correctly predict both the year and the date of Queen Elizabeth’s death in 2022.

However, as we detail below, this rumour is fake, and uses both non-existant scenes and digitally altered scenes to fool viewers.

Scene 1:

A viral short video on TikTok – apparently taken from an episode of The Simpsons – appears to show a small “poster” on the underside of the Queen’s carriage that reads 8.9.2022, which is the date of the Queen’s death (in UK date format.)

But the video has been digitally altered. The scene was taken from the episode ‘The Regina Monologues’ (Season 15, Episode 4) of the show, and the poster was digitally added to the scene as you can see below.

Scene 2:

A second still allegedly from either the same or a different episode shows the Queen laying in an open casket with the headstone reading “1926-2022”.

However this scene does not appear in any authentic episode of The Simpsons. In fact it appears to be a digital manipulation of another fake scene featuring former US president Donald Trump laying in a casket.

The Simpsons has had a long and very embellished history of predicting future events, including the false claims that the show predicted the COVID-19 outbreak and the results of the Super Bowl. This claim is no different and we rank it false.
