Does a video of thunder storm over skyscapers show Hurricane Dorian? Fact Check

A video showing a number of buildings and skyscrapers eclipsed by an extremely large storm in the skies above claims to show Hurricane Dorian.

FALSE

The below video (screenshot) is spreading on social media claiming to show Hurricane Dorian. Captions claim it either shows the hurricane over the Bahamas or Miami.

The image is fake. The photo shows Allison Island in Miami. However the photo of the buildings has simply been taken from Shutterstock, where it was uploaded by user pisaphotography. See below.

The storm above the buildings was added at a later date, and appears to be a repeating image as opposed to a video. A repeating image gives the illusion of a video but instead is just continually repeating itself. The lightning strikes have been digitally added, as has the audio of a thunderstorm (note that the thunder would not occur at the same time as the lightning in a video taken that far away, as it does in the fake video.)

As such, it’s a composite. And not a new one, either, since it pre-dates Hurricane Dorian. For example it was uploaded here on Pinterest in May 2019.

As such we rate it fake.
