Dwayne Johnson calls spammers ‘fake pieces of s***,’ and warns followers

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has warned his social media followers not to engage with fake Facebook pages claiming to be from him that publish posts offering money and freebies to those that share them.

The Hollywood actor has made it clear what he thinks of Facebook spammers masquerading as him, after posting a video on his Instagram referring to them as “real pieces of shit“.

In the video, he warns his followers not to engage with imposter accounts claiming he is giving away prizes, and also warns not to send any money to those operating the fake social media pages.

Johnson is one of many celebrities targeted by spammers who use their identities to lure Facebook users into engaging with spammy Facebook posts. Thousands of fake Dwayne Johnson accounts have popped up in 2018 offering money and cars to those who like and share the posts. One potential outcome of engaging with these posts is that the spammers may subsequently contact you over social media to try and trick you into sending them money to receive your “prize”.

Other actors who have been targeted by these spammers have previously warned their followers of these scams, including Tyler Perry.

Johnson also wrote a comment alongside his Instagram video –

Sorry if you’ve been affected by these fake @facebook accounts asking for $$ or worse yet, actually engaged with them enough to send money in.
Hey I get it, sometimes when we’re broke and struggling to make ends meet, the promise of a fast buck can be appealing.
It’s hard to mitigate these assholes, because they pop up by the dozens daily hoping to prey on the ones who’ve fallen on hard times.
Be smart, vigilant and don’t engage

That’s sound advice. If you suspect a post from a celebrity is designed just to bait you into engaging, then don’t . As The Rock says, be smart, vigilante and don’t engage. It’s probably a scam.
