Fake photos purporting to show Hurricane Michael spread online

The below photograph is spreading online via social media that claims to show Hurricane Michael as it approaches Florida.

A photo of Hurricane Michael moving into Panama City Beach earlier this afternoon

While the photo does appear to have been taken in Florida, specifically Pensacola Beach (We tracked down the exact location on Google Maps here) it was originally posted onto Reddit in July 2018, 3 months before Hurricane Michael reached Florida.

It was posted along with the caption

A friend’s husband took this pic of the storm approaching Pensacola Beach last night.

The “friend’s husband” was subsequently identified as local photographer Sean Rogan.

As such, the photo clearly doesn’t show Hurricane Michael.
