Has Andrea Agnelli resigned as Juventus president? Fact Check

Viral claims on Twitter that Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has resigned appear to have started from a prank Twitter account.

On April 20th 2021, amid controversy of a proposed “European Super League”, rumours that Juventus president Andrea Agnelli had resigned from his post began to circulate Twitter.

However, it appears that most who were initially proliferating the rumour were citing a tweet from legitimate sports media outlet talkSport (below) announcing the resignation. Only it wasn’t a talkSport tweet, rather a fake account bearing the same name and profile picture as the official talkSport Twitter account.

Eagled eyed viewers would have noticed that the username does not bear the talkSPORT username that is associated with the official account. Rather it is Napoleonismo.

The fake account then resorted back to the user’s original name and profile picture, and has since been gleefully retweeting posts about the fake rumours.

Ironically enough, the real talkSPORT also subsequently tweeted about the fake rumours.

Meanwhile, no official channels have announced such as resignation, and Romeo Agresti, the Juventus correspondent for football magazine Goal has said in a tweet that Juventus has denied the rumours.

Pending an official denial by either the president or the club through an official channel, we will rank this claim as unproven.

However it has been confirmed that Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has resigned amid the fallout of the proposed European Super League.
