Has Nobel Prize Committee Disqualified Trump from Award? Fact Check
A screenshot of an AP newswire article claiming Donald Trump has been permanently barred from winning a Nobel Prize is circulating social media.
FALSEPresident Donald Trump and many of his allies have consistently lobbied the Norwegian Nobel Committee claiming he should be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize. A screenshot of an apparent AP article claiming the President has been barred from such a prize, attributing the decision to his renaming the US Department of Defense to the Department of War as well as his recent UN speech, is circulating social media platforms, specifically X (Twitter).
An example of such a post can be seen below.
However the AP article is demonstrably false. The first clue is that the word “bar” is misspelled as “barr” on the headline, which would be an unlikely typo on any AP press release. There is also a grammar error on the first sentence (“world leader” should be “world leaders”). Secondly and conclusively, no such announcement exists from the Nobel Prize Committee, nor does any article exist on the AP news website with that headline. No other media outlets are reporting on the so-called decision.
Consequently we can rate this claim as false.
