Is the Payday candy bar changing name? Fact Check

Rumours on social media claim that the Payday candy bar popular in the United States is changing its name to avoid causing offense to people who do not have a job.

FALSE

An example of the claim on social media is below –

Payday candy bar is changing it’s name because it’s offensive to those who don’t work.

The claim is unfounded, and the The Hershey Company who produce the Payday Bar has not made any such announcement about a change in name. We contacted a spokesperson for Hershey who told us that no such change in the name of the candy bar has been planned.

It appears the rumours were kickstarted by an online meme posted onto Twitter, likely intended as a joke, though it appears many social media users took the meme at face value.
