No, Michael J. Fox isn’t dead at the age of 57

As they say, stories of his death have been greatly exaggerated.

The Internet killed off yet another celebrity this week, Michael J Fox, famous for his role in the Back to the Future movies as Marty McFly.

Despite what rumours have claimed, the actor is very much alive. Internet hoaxers have set up a spoof news website that masquerades as Yahoo News, and using that site published an article claiming the American-Canadian actor had died.

Headlines such as “Beloved actor and Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox died at the age of 57” have circulated virally through social media by users who had fallen for the hoax.

Getting your news from random websites or links on the Internet is never a great idea. Internet users can easily verify if a breaking news story is genuine by using a search engine such as Google. News about the deaths of well-known celebrities is generally reporting on within minutes of the story breaking via reputable news outlets.

That means if an Internet search yields no results, it’s probably not true!
