Is photo of dog pooping outside 10 Downing Street real?

A photo apparently shows a dog taking a “number 2” outside of 10 Downing Street has many online spectators asking if the photo is genuine.

The answer; it’s not. The photo above has been doing the social media rounds for a while now and shows a dog mid-poop right on the doorstep of number 10, much to the amusement of a police officer and security guard.

Perhaps inevitably, the nature of the photo has resulted in many political spectators and bloggers in the past utilizing the image to illustrate their opinions and perceptions on UK politics.

However, the photo isn’t real. In fact the original photo, below, actually originally depicted “Chief Mouser” Larry the Cat, who arrived at Downing Street in 2011 during David Cameron’s tenure as Prime Minister, waiting to be let into 10 Downing Street. The photo was apparently taken in 2013.

As for the dog? We’re not sure who he/she is, but images showing the dog have long been used as a stock image in articles related to dog mess. The original photo of the dog is below.

As such, the image is certainly not real.
