Rex Secco – Arsenal’s latest signing for 2015? No.

Many Arsenal fans were probably in a state of confusion as the English Premiership transfer window closed last week, after rumours they had signed the relatively unknown Rex Secco for a staggering £34 million began to spread.

Who was this mystery player, who, at a mere 16 years of age, would help the English club mount a serious title challenge on favourites Man City and Chelsea?

It all turned out to be somewhat of an Internet hoax. Arsenal had no signed the talented Secco. Not because of manager Wenger’s reluctance to part with the clubs money, but because Rex Secco doesn’t exist.

That’s right, he’s not real.

But this fact didn’t stop rumours flowing across social media that Arsenal had finally managed to sign an outfield player as the transfer window came to a close.

Many Arsenal fans reacted in disbelief as such a large amount of money going to an unknown player, whilst opposition fans rejoiced in what they described as an obvious panic buy from a club who have been struggling for a top four place the last few seasons.

All of the above were left feeling a little foolish when the truth came out and it was all just an Internet prank.

Another reason that, if not for any other reason than to stop yourself looking silly, it is important to verify information online before you share it with your friends.
