Twitter “confirm your email address” email a mistake claims Twitter

Did you get an unexpected email from Twitter asking you to confirm your account? You can ignore it.

A large volume of Twitter users have reported receiving an unexpected email from Twitter land in their inboxes over the last 24 hours asking them to click a link to confirm their accounts.

Such a surge in emails being sent to Twitter users who presumably have already confirmed their accounts is very big red flag that should be ringing just about every alarm bell. Phishing email scams will often ask recipients click a link because they need to “confirm their account”. But the links lead to impostor websites that steal login information.

But worry not, because as it turned out this was no mass phishing attack on Twitter users. Shortly after the emails landed in inboxes everywhere, Twitter Support tweeted that it was just a mistake and the email can ignored.

Think of it a practise run for when crooks do sent out a mass Twitter phishing scam aimed at harvesting your login details. And as an extra layer of security you could consider enabling two factor authentication on your Twitter account? (And any important online account for that matter.)
