McDonalds’ Twitter brands Trump “disgusting” after hack

Another high-profile Twitter hack comes only a day after several high profile Twitter accounts were found to be posting Nazi-themed tweets when a third party Twitter app was compromised.

In this case, the compromised Twitter account belonged to fast food franchise McDonalds, who posted –

@realDonaldTrump You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back, also you have tiny hands.

McDonalds – who reported they had been alerted to the incident by Twitter – soon removed the offending Tweet but not before it had been retweeted and liked thousands of times. According to sources, the tweet was live for around 15 minutes.

McDonalds said in a subsequent tweet –

Twitter notified us that our account was compromised. We deleted the tweet, secured our account and are now investigating this.

It is not likely the incident is related to a previous Twitter hack that resulted in many Twitter accounts posting Nazi-themed tweets related to the Netherland/Turkey tensions. Those hacks involved a third-party app that has since had its access revoked.

It is also unclear at this time how the anti-Trump tweet happened. Was the McDonalds Twitter hacked, did the compromise happen from another vulnerable third-party app or was it the work of a disgruntled employee? Or perhaps an unfortunate mix up of accounts from whomever is in charge of the McDonalds Twitter feed?
