Did Donald Trump’s mother call him idiot with zero common sense? Fact Check

Online rumours claim that Mary Anne Trump, President Donald Trump’s mother, once called him an idiot and hoped he would never go into politics.

The rumors typically manifest themselves with the below meme that is circulating on social media. However the specific image may change depending on which variant you happen on.

Yes he’s an idiot with zero common sense, and no social skills, but he IS my son. I just hope he never goes into politics. He’d be a disaster. – Mary Anne Trump

Trump’s mother passed away in the year 2000, so if this quote were real, it’s certainly not recent. The meme (and other memes containing the quote) fail to provide context or a date as to when the quote was allegedly uttered, and there are no search matches at all when trying to pinpoint any further information.

In fact, any online search we perform either reveals this same meme or Internet users questioning its validity.

It seems that if Trump’s mother really did say this publicly, we would know exactly when and where she said it, given the fact that her son went on to become the US President. Given that that pertinent information is still lacking, it would cast a pretty serious shadow on the authenticity of the quote, and as such we rank it false.
