Does copying Facebook post allow you to see more friends on newsfeed? Fact check
Facebook posts circulating on the social platform urge readers to copy and paste them so users can see more friends appear on their newsfeed.
A number of different versions of these posts exist, though all claim that copying or reposting a message to your Facebook profile will someone allow a Facebook user to see more friends appear on their newsfeed.
One example of this post asks others to comment “hello” so they will appear in the original posters newsfeed. The post claims that doing this will help avoid hearing from the “same 25 friends”. The post also blames “Facebook’s new algorithm”, The post can be seen below.
I’m jumping in the bandwagon too: Crazy…it worked! After reposting this to all my friends, my newsfeed showed a WHOLE new batch of friends’ posts I haven’t been seeing.

Your Newsfeed recently shows only posts from the same few people, about 25, repeatedly the same, because Facebook has a new algorithm.

Otherwise Facebook chooses who to show me and I don’t need facebook to choose my friends!
Do not hesitate to copy and paste on your wall so you can have more interaction with all your contacts and bypass the system. That’s why we don’t see all posts from our friends.
Another version from 2022 claims that copying a post will both result in more friends appearing on a user’s newsfeed and will get “rid of Facebook adverts”.
To regain friends in your news feed and get rid of ads – Hold your finger anywhere in this post and click ′copy’. Go to your page where it says ‘What’s on your mind?’ Tap your finger anywhere in the blank field. Click paste. This upgrades the system.

Another post from 2023 rewords the hoax once again but the basic premise remains the same.
So I’m doing what everyone else is doing. Fixing my blocked posts. I wondered where everybody had been! This is good to know. It’s ridiculous to have 100s of friends and only 25 are allowed to see posts.
I ignored this post earlier because I didn’t think it worked. Does it WORK?!! What would it take to have a whole new news feed?
Here’s how to bypass the system FB now has in place that limits posts on your news feed. Their new algorithm chooses the same few people – about 25 – who will read your posts. So hold your finger down anywhere in this post and “copy” will pop up. Click “copy”. Then go to your page, start a new post, and put your finger anywhere in the blank field. “Paste” will pop up and click “paste”. This will bypass the system.

These posts are nonsense, and are the latest variation of posts that ultimately don’t understand how Facebook’s newsfeed works (and always has worked.) We’ve previously discussed similar messages in our post here.
To avoid reiterating ourselves, we will surmise briefly below why the post is inaccurate.
– You don’t hear from the “same 25 friends” all of the time. Facebook has no determined limit on how many friends will regularly make an appearance in your newsfeed, and the number of friends appearing will differ between users, depending on how they use Facebook. If you regularly interact with lots of people, your newsfeed will likely be more diverse with more friends appearing. If you concentrate your interaction to only a small number of friends, it is those friends that will likely take up most of your newsfeed.

– There is no “new Facebook algorithm”. The fundamental approach to the Facebook newsfeed is this – the more you interact with someone on Facebook, the more they appear in your newsfeed. The less you interact, the less they appear. This has been the case for many, many years. Facebook also takes into account other variables. For example, posts deemed important – engagement announcements for example – are given an extra boost and will reach more friends.
– Asking friends to comment “hello” or something equally arbitrary won’t have any significant impact when it comes to them appearing on your newsfeed. As we stated above, the more you interact with someone on Facebook, the more they appear in your newsfeed. But that interaction has to be both meaningful and regular, which typing “hello” on a single post is neither. It isn’t likely that a friend typing “hello” on a single post will have any impact at all, and if it does, it won’t be long-lasting.

Also, if anything, a friend typing a comment on your post is more likely to result in them seeing more of your posts, not you seeing more of theirs.
Ultimately, Facebook wants to show you relevant and interesting information on your newsfeed (notwithstanding the adverts, of course!) And showing you information from friends you regularly engage with is a good barometer to do that. If you want to start seeing information from a particular friend, then engage with them on the site (or enable the See First option on their timeline.)
But getting all your friends to type “hello” on a copy & paste post isn’t going to work. None of these types of posts work to any meaningful extent.
