Will sex robots that can cook and clean be available by 2019? Fact Check

Messages are spreading online that claim technology companies will soon be releasing sex robots that can both cook and clean, and such robots should be available to purchase by 2019.

The messages are linking back to an article on the website Huzlers.com that reads in part –

SEX ROBOTS THAT CAN COOK, CLEAN EFFICIENTLY WILL BE AVAILABLE BY 2019
WORLDWIDE – According to reports, tech companies that are producing realistic sex robots are trying to reach the next level in creating sex robots that can cook and clean. Company spokesperson’s say the cooking and cleaning sex robots can be available for purchase as soon as next year.
Sex Robots have become a very hot topic, both criticized and praised. Many think sex robots will have a negative impact on society and sex life, as people may choose sex robots over actual people. With many people on Twitter making jokes about how sex robots cannot cook and clean, unfortunately for them, cleaning and cooking sex robots is already happening.
“I’ve dated around six women in my entire life” says Jan Kunchai, an engineer at RealBotix, “and all six cheated on me, I’m six for six like Jordan. Anyways i thought it would be a good idea to create a robot that can cook and clean so i don’t have to get cheated on anymore, the next step would probably be a sex robot that can reproduce”.

The article is not real, and neither are any of the claims it makes. While the article does mention a real robotics company – RealBotix – there are no reports that it is planning on making a sex robot that can cook and clean, and there are no reputable sources for the quotes apparently made by an employee there, Jan Kunchai, or indeed any record of that person even existing.

The robot in the photo used to illustrate the article is Harmony, a robot made by RealBotix. However the chef’s hat was digitally added – she neither cooks or cleans.

While both sex robots and robots that can perform [relatively basic] cleaning functions do exist, no company has amalgamated the two, and given what types of robotics are in the market currently, it would likely be some time before we develop the technology to create a robot that can cook and clean a house as well as provide sexual… gratification (?) to its owner.

If there was any doubt that this could be real, one should perhaps first read the disclaimer on the website Huzlers.com .
