You can’t win a “Camper Car” for sharing a Facebook post

A post is spreading virally across Facebook claiming to give away 52 “camper cars” that can’t be sold “they have been stock”. The poorly written post claim that by sharing it and liking the page you stand a chance of being chosen to win one of the camper cars.

An example of the post can be seen below.

We have got 52 (Camper car) that can’t be sold because they have been stock. Therefore we are giving them away for free. Want one of them? Just SHARE this photo & LIKE Our Page and we will choose 52 people completely at random on November 15!

This is a classic example of a like-farming page using a fake competition to lure people into liking a page. Despite the popularity of the post that has – at the time of writing – been shared over 350,000 times, there is no competition or “52 camper cars” on offer, This is merely an attempt to deceive people into liking a Facebook page.

In this instance, the page can be easily dismissed as like-farming because…

1. It has only made 2 posts spanning 24 hours as we write this.
2. Both posts are attempting to lure people into liking a page.
3. Despite having the website campercar.com listed in its About Us page, the page lacks any blue verification tick that denotes an official Facebook page
4. The page asks users to share a post on their timeline to enter a competition, which is against Facebook’s terms of service regarding promotions.
5. The post is poorly written with several grammar errors.
6. And most importantly – you can’t win something like a camper van just for liking a Facebook page. These competitions aren’t real.

It is strongly recommended that you avoid interacting with such pages since they can often edit posts to include links spammy marketing webpages or even websites that engage in identity theft or malware distribution. Additionally, following such pages will increase the chances of seeing more spam links in your Facebook newsfeed.
